A special stage greeting was held in Tokyo on the 19th to celebrate the release of the 28th film in the popular anime series, Detective Conan: One- Flashback. The event was attended by the main voice cast, including Minami Takayama, along with guest voice actors Takayuki Yamada and Mizuki Yamashita.

The movie was released nationwide in 522 theaters on the 18th. On its opening day alone, it attracted 690,000 moviegoers and earned over 1.05 billion yen ($7.39 million) at the box office. Compared to the previous film, Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram — which became the franchise’s highest-grossing title with a total of 15.88 billion yen ($110 million)— this film achieved 109% of the previous opening numbers, marking an explosive start that could surpass the last record.

Takayama, surprised by the film’s strong performance, joked with Rikiya Koyama, who voices Kogoro Mouri, saying, “That’s amazing, old man. It must be the ‘old man effect’ at work.” Since the story focuses on the Nagano Prefectural Police, Takayama came up with the playful nickname “Yatsugatake” (named after the famous mountain range) for fans watching the movie multiple times. Some devoted fans had already “summited” all eight viewings, leaving Takayama astonished: “I’m truly surprised there are people who have already conquered the Yatsugatake. This just proves how enjoyable the movie is, no matter how many times you watch it,” she said with a smile. She also added, “Please be careful on your way down the mountain (back home). Thanks to everyone’s passion, the temperature outside the theater feels like 30 degrees! I hope we can keep this heat going.”

Yamashita commented, “A lot of people I know went to see it on opening day, and I’ve seen many posts about it on social media. I believe this film especially makes you want to revisit the TV series after your first watch, and it’s the kind of movie you’ll want to see again and again.”

Yamada was also impressed by the buzz, adding, “It’s something you wouldn’t see in live-action, so it’s really incredible. Hearing that someone already watched it eight times on the second day is just mind-blowing.”
